Your hot water cylinder is quietly eating your power bill
A standard electric cylinder heats water with an element, just like a giant jug, every single day. A heat pump does the same job with a fraction of the electricity.
of your home's energy
Heating water is about 30% of the average NZ household's energy use, the second biggest user after heating your home.
Source: EECAless electricity
That is how much less power the Haier Monoblock uses compared with a standard electric storage cylinder.
Source: Haier specification guide2of NZ homes have one
Only about 12,000 of New Zealand's 2 million hot water systems are heat pumps. Most homes are still paying full price for hot water.
Source: EECAIt moves heat instead of making it
Think of it as a fridge working in reverse. Instead of burning power to make heat, it pulls free warmth out of the outside air and puts it into your water.
1. The fan draws in outside air
Even cold Christchurch air holds plenty of heat. The Haier works with the heat pump alone down to -7°C.
2. The compressor concentrates it
A natural refrigerant (R290) soaks up that warmth and the compressor turns it into real heat.
3. The heat goes into your 246 litre tank
Plenty of hot water for a busy household, heated for a fraction of the power.
1 unit of power in, about 4.5 units of heat out
The Haier 250L has a rated COP of 4.48. An electric element gets 1 unit of heat for every unit of power it uses.
COP measured at 20°C air and 15°C water, per Haier's specification guide. Real results drop in colder weather, which is why we quote "up to 70%" rather than the tested 79%.

Move the sliders to match your home. Your power price is on your bill, usually shown in cents per kWh.
A rough guide, not a promise. Assumes about 500 kWh a year of cylinder heat loss plus 600 kWh per person, and a 60% cut. That is below Haier's tested 69 to 79% to allow for Christchurch winters.

Both Robbie and Ollie were a pleasure to have in our home - very pleasant, efficient and made a great job of our hot water heat pump. The site was left clean and tidy which was very much appreciated.
Aaron was incredibly easy to deal with from the first enquiry through to completion of the job. His communication was excellent, the quote was very competitive, and organising a time for the work was straightforward and hassle free.
We had them work with us across 2 new bathrooms and new hot water cylinder. They were so great to deal with, very easy communication and very accommodating as we staged the work to fit around us living in the reno.
...had fair prices with no surprises. I really appreciated their honest advice and quality work
Excellent service from start to finish. Emma was quick to respond and give me a quote and Ollie came out and installed my whole house filter as and when promised.
First time customer of Simply Plumbing and can’t compliment them enough for their efficiency in responding to my initial inquiry, ease of booking and the guys turning up on time and even a courtesy text to say they were on their way.
Great service, really well priced, and so easy to deal with. What really sets them apart is their communication... you’re always kept in the loop and know exactly what’s happening.
Friendly and fast service. Robbie was great. Kept my expectations realistic and prevented me from spending money on extra unnecessary repairs that other companies had recommended.
They fixed the simple one “simply” and analysed the other one, sorting it out and saving us potentially a few thousand dollars.
Aaron, Brogan, Robbie and Emma did incredible work and really had customer service and quality work at the fore front of their business!

Everything people ask us
What is included in the $6,999?
The Haier 250L Monoblock hot water heat pump, supplied and installed by our team, with the electrician included. The price includes GST. We confirm everything for your home before you commit, and you pay nothing today.
How much will I really save?
Haier's tested figure is 69 to 79% less electricity than a standard electric storage cylinder. Real savings depend on how much hot water you use, your power price and the weather, so we say up to 70%. Try the savings calculator above for a rough number for your home.
Does it work in a Christchurch winter?
Yes. The heat pump runs on its own in air temperatures from -7°C to 45°C. It also has a backup electric element, so you still get hot water on the coldest mornings.
Is 250 litres big enough for us?
It is a common size for families of three to five. If you have a bigger household or lots of long showers, tell us in the form and we'll make sure you get the right size.
Is it noisy?
It is rated at 43 dB(A), which is quieter than a normal conversation. We'll help you choose a spot away from bedroom windows.
Where does it go?
Outside, on a level base, with some clear space around and above it for servicing. That frees up the cupboard your old cylinder used. A photo of your current setup helps us plan it.
What warranty do I get?
Haier gives a five year manufacturer's warranty on parts and labour for home use, plus an extra two years parts only on the cylinder. Standard Haier terms apply.
Does the offer really end on 31 October?
Yes, the $6,999 offer ends on 31 October. Get your details in now and we'll confirm your price and install date.
